How has open infrastructure transformed the organization’s business?

As a Custom Software Development company, our organization has not implemented open infrastructure for its own use. However, we have had the opportunity to work with customers in the last couple of years, developing new features for the StarlingX product. Through this work, Encora has gained deep expertise in open infrastructure and contributed to the advancement of this technology allowing us to better understand the needs of our clients who require scalable solutions that need cloud-computing platforms at the edge of the network, delivering high-quality software development services to meet those needs. Our expertise in this area has enhanced our reputation and credibility in the industry and has led to increased customer satisfaction, bringing new business opportunities.

How has the organization participated in or contributed to an open source project?

Working with our clients, Encora has gained significant expertise by contributing to OIF open-source projects. As a testament to our commitment to the open-source community, we have decided to give back by directly investing in the StarlingX project. We will speak at the upcoming Summit in Vancouver, and we plan to participate in the Meetup group, in Ottawa. Also, we are working to enhance the Developer Experience with a tool that simplifies the deployment, making it possible to create quick and small PoC, thereby bringing more agility to the community as a whole. We firmly believe that active participation in the open-source community is essential for advancing technology and creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

What open source technologies does the organization use in its open infrastructure environment?

Our organization does not maintain an open infrastructure environment of our own. However, we do work with open source technologies like StarlingX and we have deployed multiple systems running it in test environments on behalf of our customers in the last three years, and we have been actively involved in the open source community surrounding this technology.

What is the scale of your open infrastructure environment?

We do not maintain an open infrastructure environment of our own. However, we have experience deploying and testing open source technologies such as StarlingX on behalf of our customers. The scale of our testing environments varies based on the specific needs of our customers and the size and complexity of the solutions we are developing.

What kind of operational challenges have you overcome during your experience with open infrastructure?

We have faced a number of operational challenges while deploying and testing StarlingX on behalf of our customers. These challenges have been related to the configuration and setup of the software. However, with the support of the StarlingX community and by leveraging the available documentation, we have been able to successfully overcome these challenges and deliver high-quality solutions to our customers. Specifically, we have found that active participation in the community and mailing list have been invaluable resources in addressing operational challenges. Additionally, we have found that being diligent in following best practices for configuration and setup has been essential to ensure successful deployments.

How is this team innovating with open infrastructure?

Our team constantly explores emerging use cases and validates what is possible with open infrastructure technologies such as StarlingX. One area where we have been particularly innovative is in our approach to testing and deploying these technologies. By leveraging our expertise in software development and testing, we have developed highly effective and efficient testing frameworks that allow us to automatically deploy thousands of sub clouds for our test environments. We have been working with clients around the globe, helping them to deploy and manage open infrastructure solutions in a variety of settings and contexts.

The Superuser Editorial Advisory Board will review the nominees and determine the finalists and overall winner after the community has had a chance to review the nominees and vote.
