Edge computing pushes applications, data and computing power services away from centralized points to the logical extremes of a network. It enables companies to put the right data in the right place at the right time, supporting fast and secure access.
At the recent Summit Boston, Beth Cohen, Verizon’s cloud networking product manager, lays down the basics of edge computing in every day terms in a five-minute conversation with the OpenStack Foundation’s Heidi Joy Tretheway.
Cohen highlights the practical uses, as well as architectural versatility and independence, that separate the edge from other technologies like containers, which cannot stand alone.
