In a recent interview, Wes Wilson, the vice president of Operations at the OpenInfra Foundation, spoke with Swapnil Bhartiya, the CEO and host of TFIR. They talked about different topics, including the current state of the foundation, Wilson’s new role, and the introduction of the Project Funding model.

Wilson has been with the organization for eight years and has seen it evolve from the OpenStack Foundation to the OpenInfra Foundation. In his new position, he sees the organization growing and has more opportunities to contribute value to both the foundation and its participating members.

Over the years, Wilson has worked on establishing a project hosting framework, which led to the announcement of the new Project Funding model at the 2022 Berlin Summit.

The Project Funding model allows foundation members to directly support projects they choose, instead of using a centralized funding approach. This model is innovative because it enables the OpenInfra Foundation to focus its efforts on specific networks and give more attention to individual projects and their associated funds. As a result, this approach improves the chances of successful development and implementation of these projects.
