Spotlight on.. Denver Summit + Project Team Gathering update

You’re probably aware that the OpenStack Summit was renamed the Open Infrastructure Summit to reflect the wide array of open-source tools used to automate modern infrastructure and the challenges of integrating them to solve advanced use cases.

The agenda for the April 29–May 1 event is now live, featuring talks and training sessions that cover the implementation of more than 30 open-source projects, including four new projects hosted at the OpenStack Foundation (OSF): Kata Containers, Zuul, Airship and StarlingX. As in previous conferences, the agenda is organized into Tracks and tagged by project so you can easily find sessions.

Here’s an overview of the content and discussions you can expect to see at the Summit:

  • Breakout sessions around CI/CD, container infrastructure, private and hybrid cloud, public cloud, telecom and NFV, HPC/GPU/AI.
  • Featured speakers from ARM, AT&T, Baidu, Boeing, Blizzard Entertainment and Haitong Securities among open infrastructure use cases featuring Ceph, Docker, Kata Containers, Kubernetes, OpenStack and 30 other open source technologies.
  • In addition to almost 100 sessions about OpenStack, the schedule includes project updates, onboarding sessions and demos across the OSF’s pilot projects—Airship, Kata Containers, StarlingX and Zuul.
  • Collaborative sessions will be offered at the Forum, where open infrastructure operators and upstream developers will gather to jointly chart the future of open source infrastructure, discussing topics ranging from upgrades to networking models and how to get started contributing.

Project Team Gathering

  • Check out the list of the teams already signed up for the May 2-4 event on the PTG site. They include many OpenStack projects and special interest groups (SIGs) in addition to several pilot projects.  Expect the final schedule soon.

OpenStack Foundation news

  • After receiving and incorporating feedback from the Board of Directors committee, OSF project leadership bodies and the broader community, a draft of the OSF Project Confirmation Guidelines will be reviewed by the Board during their March 5 meeting. We would like to give special thanks to Allison Randal for driving this effort.
  • The Diversity & Inclusion Working Group is conducting an anonymous survey to better understand the diversity and makeup of the community. More on these efforts here.

OpenStack Foundation project news

  • Registration is open for the Ops meetup in Berlin, March 6-7, 2019, a community-driven, collaborative event for people running OpenStack infrastructure.
  • Congratulations to Amy Marrich, Belmiro Moreira and John Studarus on their elections to the OpenStack User Committee.
  • Voting for the OpenStack Technical Committee started Feb 26, 2019 23:45 UTC and continues through Mar 05, 2019 23:45 UTC. Check out the election page to review the candidates’ platforms.
  • The OpenStack community just launched a new Bare Metal Special Interest Group, with a focus on highlighting the many ways that OpenStack Ironic is being used in production to manage hardware clusters. The SIG has just started a white paper covering the philosophy and use cases for managing hardware with Ironic. This is a community-based collaboration and you’re invited to participate in writing it!

Airship

  • The Airship team is now producing monthly releases of Treasure Map, the Airship documentation project that provides a complete, continuously tested sample configuration for deploying open infrastructure with Airship. If you’re ready to run Airship in production, Treasure Map will guide that journey.

Kata Containers

  • Samuel Ortiz and Xu Wang were reelected as returning members of the Kata Containers Architecture Committee. Congratulations and thank you for your continued leadership!
  • The Kata Content SIG holds monthly meetings to work on marketing content for the Kata Containers blog and other community channels. If you would like to get involved, please join the next meeting on March 13 at 7:00 a.m. PT.

StarlingX

  • There will be plenty of opportunities to meet up with the StarlingX community at the Open Infrastructure Summit in Denver; learn more about the project related sessions as well as plans for the Forum and PTG on the StarlingX blog.
  • Stay tuned for further announcements about project update and onboarding sessions as well as the RSVP link to the hands-on workshop where you can learn more about the platform by deploying it and play with the latest features.

Zuul

  • This week, Jim Blair provided a Zuul update on the mailing list, including specs around features including an authenticated web API enabling tenant- or project-scoped privileged actions,  web and AMQP triggers, python3 only node support, and a URLTrigger driver.
