Our favorite headline of the week is coming from the Silicon Valley, as search-engine to cloud optimizing Google tweeted, "private clouds and containers are better together", when announcing their team up with OpenStack. OpenStack has worked with Google unofficially on projects Magnum, and Murano and the new Community App Catalog.). Drawing the two together this time is container innovation, and Hybrid cloud performance. Mark Collier, COO of the OpenStack Foundation had this to say when unveiling news of Google’s sponsorship, "Few companies understand cloud-native apps at scale like Google, so I expect big things as Google developers contribute to OpenStack projects like Magnum…"

In other news, OpenStack Summit Tokyo 2015 registration is open. Sign up for the Summit in Tokyo, October 27-30. Registration closes on October 1, and OpenStack’s travel support program which helps contributors travel to OpenStack Summits is accepting applications until August 10.
The call for speakers has officially closed, but not before setting a record breaking number of applicants to speak at the OpenStack Summit in Tokyo. Soon to be announced is when voting will open on the OpenStack Summit page.
The cloud is expanding. Announced last week by the IDC (Internal Data Corporation) – [nearly one third of all IT work is now being devoted to the cloud](http://www.networkworld.com/article/2944472/cloud-computing/nearly-one-third-of-all-it-infrastructure-spending-now-devoted-to-cloud.html
). The percentage of total IT infrastructure dedicated to the cloud has grown from 26.4 percent to 30 percent in the past year alone. Kuba Stolaarski, research manager at IDC, said: "Cloud IT infrastructure growth continues to outpace the growth of the overall IT infrastructure market, driven by the transition of workloads onto cloud-based platforms…"
Dawn of a new era? OpenStack is known for connecting clouds and now Johan Christenson, CEO of [City Network](), the first European provider to offer OpenStack in multiple data centers across Europe, asks the question, is OpenStack’s interoperability leading to the dawn of a new era? OpenStack’s has the ability to combine private clouds and public clouds on a universal scale, and now it is time for everyone to follow in their footsteps. Christenson said, "While I think OpenStack has a lot to offer any company already today โ I think the interoperability is what will make it truly unique and is an immense opportunity for both vendors and customers."
Leading up to OpenStack’s Fifth Anniversary on this Sunday, July 19, the community is celebrating all over the world. See the list of user group celebration days, and find a party in your community. Many users, while observing the great progress the project has covered in a mere five years, are sharing how OpenStack has affected their careers. Cloud Operations Engineer at Comcast, Shilla Saebi had this to say, "OpenStack has impacted my career tremendously and has opened a world of opportunities to learn for me…"
