Who do you think should win the 2022 Superuser Awards? The annual Superuser Awards is to recognize organizations that have used open infrastructure to improve their business while contributing back to the community.
This year, the Superuser Awards winner will be announced at the OpenInfra Summit Berlin, June 7-9! Join the global community for its first in-person Summit in over two years and collaborate directly with the people building and running open source infrastructure using OpenStack, Kubernetes and 30+ other technologies. Get your Summit tickets before the price increases on May 17!
Inspur is one of the 11 nominees for the Superuser Awards 2022. Check out why its team getting nominated:
Who is the nominee?
Inspur, specifically a customer use case: Department Information Technology of Agricultural Development Bank of China
How has open infrastructure transformed the organization’s business?
During the design process of the Inspur InCloud OS platform, the layered decoupling capability of the infrastructure was designed, and it was adopted the software-defined idea. Focusing on the systematic construction of the IaaS layer of the data center, based on the OpenStack computing standard framework, a set of low-coupling and high-cohesion cloud platform technology system has been constructed for the “Nongfa Zhiyun” project. InCloud OS presents capabilities including microservices, containers, DevOps and more with a unified service catalog, realized the hierarchical decoupling of physical devices and software platforms, and the cohesion of services and management capabilities.
How has the organization participated in or contributed to an open source project?
Inspur InCloud OS team released InCloud OS products based on OpenStack Rocky/Ussuri release, and actively participated in open source community contributions. In 2019, the InCloud OS team contributed Venus, the first open source project in the field of intelligent operation and maintenance, and was highly recognized by the open source community and industry manufacturers. InCloud OS register bug on launchpad and resolved or sent them on ML, and completed many blueprints in community active projects such as on Nova, Cinder, Manila, Cyborg, Masakari etc., and attended OpenStack PTG at each release, and bring a large number of speech topics to participate in activities such as OpenInfra submit, Days China activities. InCloud OS team has contributed more than one million lines of code to core
What open source technologies does the organization use in its open infrastructure environment?
In terms of computing and heterogeneous accelerator device management, the unified management of accelerator devices such as GPU and FPGA is realized on their CMP. When creating a computing instance, it is scheduled to the best host through weighted average with memory and CPU, so as to improve the utilization of computing resources.
supports container application cross-architecture scheduling migration, service governance, and realizes life cycle management of shared container clusters.
On network, their open infrastructure OVN-based distributed firewall, distributed floating IP, port forwarding, DVR, QoS, security group technology etc.
What is the scale of your open infrastructure environment?
Inspur InCloud OS based on OpenStack and Kubernetes technology, build a cloud platform composed of IaaS, PaaS and cloud management platform, through the platform to manage the virtualized clusters and container clusters in a unified way to achieve unified cloud-resource management , cloud-service management, business management, billing management, operation and maintenance management, operation management, security management, system management and other capabilities. InCloud OS has completed large-scale tests of 500 nodes and 1000 nodes in a single cluster, which fully proves its scalability and stability. It is worth mentioning that InCloud OS manages more than 20,000 OpenStack cores in a single OpenStack cluster in this project.
What kind of operational challenges have you overcome during your experience with open infrastructure?
Inspur InCloud OS product supports rolling upgrade from Rocky to any open source community stable release(higher than Rocky release), which effectively reduces the problem of long-term business interruption caused by the upgrade.
InCloud OS bsed on DPDK technology to achieve L3 acceleration of network nodes, L3 throughput > 8Gb/s, packet forwarding rate up to 8.6 million pps.
InCloud OS supports migrate VM with accelerators such as GPU,FPGA etc., and they optimize the live migration logic, support the target node to pre-deliver flow table rules, eliminate the network disconnection time window caused by the flow table delivery operation, and ensure zero packet loss in live migration.
How is this team innovating with open infrastructure?
The Inspur InCloud OS team provided an AIOps system based on OpenStack, and contributed the Venus project to the OpenStack community, which is also the first open source project in the field of AIOps in the industry, which is very innovative. Their InCloud OS product is a cloud operating system based on K8S and OpenStack. By executing the SPEC Cloud IaaS 2018 benchmark use case, InCloud OS leads in Service Score, Relative Scalability and Mean Instance Provisioning Time. InCloud OS is distributed in Asian and European markets, cultivated many OpenStack users and contributors, and actively and effectively promoted the development of OpenStack .
The Superuser Editorial Advisory Board will review the nominees and determine the finalists and overall winner after the community has had a chance to review the nominees. Stay tuned!
