The October 2024 PTG took place from the 21st through the 25th. New this time, the OpenInfra PTG played host to an adjacent open source community: OceanBase! The OceanBase community held their own meetings to showcase their project and to help the OpenInfra community understand the benefits of the project. Later that day the OceanBase team met with the OpenStack Technical Committee to better understand how they can further integrate more seamlessly with OpenStack.

With over 220 registrations and a reported attendance of more than 650 participants across the week’s 54 meetings held by 34 teams, there were a lot of productive conversations and work done by our OpenInfra community. Represented in these teams were not only OpenStack services but other top-level OpenInfra projects like StarlingX and Kata Containers, in addition to board-level working groups like the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group among other pop-up teams focused on topics like bridging the gap and the removal of Eventlet from OpenStack. Discussions this PTG yielded plans for the OpenStack Epoxy release coming in 2025 among other topics, specifically cleaning up of outdated or unsupported technologies – Postgres and Eventlet. Eventlet in particular was discussed at a Technical Committee level, and at the level of many of the OpenStack service teams. Discussion in the Kata Containers community solidified plans for Kata 4.0 release and how to reach parity between the Rust and Go versions of the runtime.
