OpenStack’s big tent has expanded to include two projects: Storlets and Tricircle.
We’ll give you a quick overview of them and find out how you can get involved from the project team leads (PTLs) ahead of the Project Teams Gathering (PTG).
Storlets
What
Storlets enables a user-friendly, cost-effective scalable and secure way for executing storage-centric user-defined functions near the data within OpenStack Swift.
Who

What new features/enhancements/fixes are expected for the upcoming release?
Instead of answering what is ‘expected’ I would prefer to answer what I would have liked to see in the hopes that interested developers will take on the challenge and turn hope into reality.
There are several areas where Storlets can be improved:
1. Better integration with the OpenStack ecosystem. This includes full integration into DevStack, as well as moving our docs into OpenStack official documentation.
2. Make the project more attractive to deployers. This includes the ability to tune and report Storlets resource consumption, improve on the unit test framework, especially, on the Java side, and provide an easy way to install Storlets over multi-nodes Swift installation.
3. Improve the Storlet ecosystem both for Storlet developers as well as Storlet users. This includes improving the very initial Jupyter integration, creating a similar integration in the Java world (e.g. in Eclipse) and broadening the capabilities to leverage Storlets from big-data analytics frameworks such as Spark and Hadoop.
What contributions do you need most from the community?
My number one goal to accomplish as a PTL is to attract more users and developers so as to enlarge the community and fulfill this project’s great potential. There’s a lot to be done and I believe that the list above has something for everyone.

Tricircle
What
Tricircle’s goal is to provide tenant oriented L2/L3 networking automation across OpenStack clouds in multi-region OpenStack deployments.

What new features/enhancements/fixes are expected for the Pike release?
Tricircle joined the OpenStack Big Tent during the Ocata cycle, our top priority in Pike is to provide VxLAN based L2 networking across Neutron, and stablize cross Neutron L2/L3 networking models.
Except fundamental VLAN/VxLAN based L2/ L3 networking models, there are some other features are expected:
Advanced features like QoS, LBaaS to be supported in cross neutron networking scenario.
Tricircle Python client.
Router availability zone support to limit where the router will reside.
Asynchronous jobs management.
What contributions do you need most from the community?
We are looking for operators who need tenant level L2/L3 networking across OpenStack cloud can try Tricircle, and feedback on use cases, networking model requirements and expected feature list with priorities.
We are also looking for new contributors especially core reviewers to build Tricircle together.
